Sometimes when I want to be somewhere that I'm not, be more than I am, give more than I can, just can't control everything, can't fix everything, whatever. Anyway, I lose myself in a song - for some reason, this is the song I'm losing myself in tonight. On many levels, it's just the music that I am losing myself in, not the lyrics. I couldn't find a sound clip online so you'll just have to trust me.
CRACKER JACK KID
Melissa Ferrick
If there's anything left
you will need it now
So reach deep inside yourself
And show them all how
You can survive
And you knew it
wasn't gonna be easy
So ease your hand
And take a long drive to unwind
The Cracker Jack Kid
You've got to search for the prize
And always remember
I. me. mine
And you the youngest
Fullest of heart
Yeah you the restless
You could never go to bed
Yeah you the speechless
You pretended that you could read
Until you were ten
The Cracker Jack Kid
You've got to search for the prize
And always remember
I. me. mine
The Cracker Jack Kid
You've got to search for the prize
And always remember
Jump jangle jiggle and rock
Fly through the sky
Sail across the top
Spin out. give out. give in
You're alive
Remember, memories
Don't hold you down
Some of them even make you
Laugh out loud
Yeah you are a smiling
Squinty eyed brow
You've got some kind of
something happening
Inside you now
The Cracker Jack Kid
You've got to search for the prize
And always remember
I. me. mine

Steep

click WITHOUT RISK... THERE IS NO ADVENTURE. click

I know two extreme skiers - one has been my idol since I was a little girl and she was actually interviewed for this movie but they opted to go with a younger skier for the female presence. As she told me when we talked about it, the movie is basically a chronicle of the first 15 years of her adult life. "Wild." Yes Kristen, wild. The other has had an equally admirable career and I am proud to say that are both are women and both are from NH and we all grew up skiing at Pat's Peak and Crotched Mountain - woot woot!
So - I need to see this movie, I'm on the edge of my seat just thinking about it. Talk about intense!
Not Sure How To Feel
a graduated from preschool last night. You'd think she was off to college, not kindergarten. It feels like the first major milestone in her life. It's not, she has walked, talked, eaten solid food, crossed the street by herself, done all these things - this is just the first real time someone has given her a certificate of accomplishment for something. For some reason, I'm feeling fahrklempt about it.
I am excited for the adventures that lie ahead, will hold onto the memories of those behind us, but do just want to push pause from time to time and just soak it all in for a moment longer.

Home Sweet Home
I am home!
I got home at about 1am, was so happy that I nearly cried. Oh, wait, I did cry. And not because I had stinky pits - ha ha. Slept for about six hours and now I'm up and running around again. No matter, I'm home. I have my A's and I'm home, that's all I need. Of course, there are a thousand things to do but nine hundred of them can wait.
I had a reasonably uneventful flight home. Got some great exit row seats, no first class options, I didn't even try, was too tired to finagle anything and debate using miles. I'm saving miles for something special. Smitty - buckle up because A and I will be regulars :)
I'm so glad to be home and I'm actually here for a couple of weeks and before I know it, I'll be off to Maine for the big family vacation which should be nice.
Also, I hope everyone has their fingers crossed - Uncle George is riding in CA this weekend and next and by month's end, we'll know if we're off to Hong Kong in August for the Olympics - yes, I know the Olympics are in Beijing but the equestrian events are in Hong Kong - has to do with quarantine. So, cross those fingers! More on this later...
Happy Birthday to Sereyna - one of my dearest friends from childhood, we've been friends since we were ten years old!
